The death of humanity came in the year 2050. The race had been killing itself for years, and now existed only in two large settlements on opposite sided of the Atlantic. Peace was a foreign concept to the last humans, and the intercontinental war had been raging for generations. This conflict culminated in a nuclear assault by both sides. The blasts destroyed both settlements, leaving few survivors. Those who were left soon fell prey to the radiation or forces of nature.
Animals inherited the earth, though it took a further 1050 years for life to return to the nuclear wastes the humans had left behind. The dogs who had continued to live in the wild saw this and, in time, ventured back into the formerly dead part of their world. At first all was well, but over time the god-favored ones began to change. The radiation had caused a mutation among some of the diseases of the land. Though most were either harmless to the dogs or outright fatal, there was one that was neither. A new strain of rabies had been born, one which infected its host and changed it’s mental state, driving it into complete insanity. It took no more than a few days for the host to fully descend into madness. Many dogs were infected or killed by the ones who returned from the dead city.
While the infection changed the dogs mentally it also brought about physical changes. Those who were infected soon became able to do strange things. Vicious and dark things, like controlling the very spiders that walked the earth. Their powers stemmed from the elements but were so twisted, black and dangerous, that they were barely recognizable as such. The God of the dogs saw this and felt fear for the uninfected; those he loved. To help them protect themselves he gave them powers too. The powers of the uninfected were much different; they were uncorrupted and pure, such as healing or growing plants.
Some dogs were immune to the virus and slowly they began to hate the infected.
Now there is a war going on; a border war. The battle is between the dog packs called the Favored and the Hated, or the immune and the infected. The Hated want to take the Favored’s lands, where supposedly the cave of the God is. The Favored are willing to protect the lands they live on to the death. So what is your choice? Will you choose to be immune to the disease, a wanderer searching for a way out, or will you choose to be a dog whom God has turned his back on?
